Alfred Brendel, famous pianist and long-time member of the Beethoven-Haus Association, will be the instructor for the first chamber music course taking place from August 1 to 5. However, he will not teach young and aspiring musicians as one might suppose. Instead, Alfred Brendel will pass his musical knowledge and experience on to two young string quartets chosen by the renowned Artemis Quartet whose musicians are also honorary members of the Beethoven-Haus. The selected quartets are the Quartetto Lyskamm from Italy and the Meccorre String Quartet from Poland. The programme includes Ludwig van Beethoven's string quartets op. 132 in A minor and op. 135 in F major.
Prof. Dr. Emil Platen, publisher of the volume concerning the late string quartets of the Neue Gesamtausgabe (New Complete Edition (of Beethoven's compositions)), will serve as scientific advisor. The Neue Gesamtausgabe is published by the Henle publishing house that will also provide the sheet music for the master class.
The master class rehearsals are public events and both interested laymen and passive participants are welcome to listen.
